   I like how your question links a thematic aspect--the role of gender differences--to a formal aspect--how narrative perspective is manipulated--very "Englishy"! As you research, you'll want to make things more complex. There's a certain amount of gender-bending, for example, whereby "gender differences" are not especially stable. For example, Piya is rather masculine in her devotion to work and rejection of adorning her body; Kanaii becomes a bit feminized by serving as the translator/mouthpiece of others' desires; Nilima and Nirmal flip the expected patriarchal order, since Nilma is powerful in the "real world," while Nirmal is dreamier and less pragmatic, and so on. All of this doesn't invalidate your question--far from it!--but it suggests that your question will grow more branches as it becomes a thesis and an introduction.
